Our back yard was a total wreck—the retaining walls of the hillside were crumbling, a patio was so cracked it was useless, there was no proper drainage anywhere, and a 75-foot Cedar had fallen across the yard, crushing the deck and two large trees.
Lazar saw past these ruins, and designed a garden that not only met our practical needs, but utterly enchanted us, and is the envy of our neighbors. They transformed the chaos by building rock retaining walls with skill and artistry. They constructed a stunning redwood deck with a quality that gets compliments from every worker we’ve hired since. They replaced the old, crushed deck with a charming flagstone patio, surrounded by woodland trees and plants.
They literally created a world out there, an extension to our home that doubles our living space. We now spend crisp mornings and sunny afternoons outside, entertaining family and friends, or simply lounging among the flowers and the hummingbirds.

I have contracted twice with Lazar and both times have been very happy with the design and installation and overall service provided. The first contract was over 20 years ago and the most recent was late fall of 2011.

The recent work done was a thorough makeover of my back yard and it went from ugly to gorgeous. The designer who worked with me listened and clearly understood what I wanted in my dream garden. She came back in a week’s time and produced designs any one of which I could have selected as they were each a lovely reflection of what I expressed I wanted.

The work commenced exactly when agreed upon and everyone who came to work on my yard was professional and patient with my last minute change of mind on things. I have to admit I was a bit obsessive about the details of the design and we had a lot of communication about the colors of plants and all my input was accepted courteously and implemented in the installation. One of the other aspects of the work that I appreciated is that they cleaned up the job every day. I did not have unsightly debris left behind each day.

I appreciated knowing who was in charge of the installation and who I needed to talk to if I had a question as the work progressed. During the follow-up meetings I told the Lazar employees I have spent more time in my garden in the first month it was installed then I ever spent in the entire 19 years I’ve lived here. I love being in my garden and so do my guests.

I had a great experience with Lazar. I had them design, plant and do the work for a major backyard overhaul. It was a challenging project as the area is terraced with varying degrees of sun. The work included installation of a retaining wall, irrigation system, as well as a significant amount of planting. I found the designer, Barry, to be professional and thoroughly knowledgeable. She listened to what I wanted and provided suggestions that I ultimately used. The work was completed quickly and I am extremely pleased with the end result.

Lazar executes! I worked with a Lazar designer to transform the front of my house. The plans were well executed and the implementation looks terrific. The installation included new bluestone walls and front steps, a paver driveway, sidewalk cutouts, irrigation and all plant material. Having had two disappointing attempts with landscape companies we were ready to give up and do it ourselves when we met with the people from Lazar. They were knowledgeable and kept every appointment that they set up. They spent a great deal of time finding quality and appropriate plants for our yard make over.
You can spend a bit less for a landscaper but in the long run Lazar would have cost us less had we started with them in the first place. They finished the job on time and their associate,Barry, even showed up weeks after the job was done to help us plant the bulbs we had ordered and which are now coming up in the wake of our late winter rains. She did this on her own time and made good on replacement of any of the plants that didn’t make it well past the 90 day warranty period. We felt we definitely got what we paid for with Lazar Landscape.

We just recently finished a large project in our back yard with the crew at Lazar Landscape, involving a new flagstone patio, ipe deck, curved stone staircase, terraced gardens and rock wall. Our designer, Lisa, was terrific to work with. She has a great eye for design, knows plants and captured exactly what we had in mind (to tie in with our craftsman “look”). The crew, overseen by Maribel, was very hard working, dependable and skilled. The amazing thing is that we left for a 3 week vacation out of the country while they did the work. They communicated with us regularly, were very trustworthy and there were absolutely NO problems during our absence. Both Lisa and Maribel were very responsive to any questions or issues we had along the way. We are also pleased that all the plants are warranteed. The crew is coming back (four months later) to check on the plants and replace any that have not “taken”. The project was completed right on schedule and we are enjoying the beautiful results. We would highly recommend this company to anyone who appreciates quality.

Lazar Landscape performed a comprehensive overhaul of our entire yard, including removal of most of the plants and trees, complete re-planting based on their professional design (as approved by us), custom irrigation (their knowledge will save us a considerable amount of water in the future) and even high-end outdoor lighting (flood lights, up-lighting and down-lighting). The mulch they put down at the end of the project makes everything look so great; in areas such as this, and the way they arranged the climbers on a side fence, exceeded our expectations. It was amazing how good, smart, professional, efficient, quick and courteous the whole staff was through the entire process!
